Ken Balfanz

What brings him to Innovative Health & Fitness

Ken struggled with two brain operations, spinal meningitis, a neck fusion, and a lower back fusion all within a year and a half. In total, Ken has had 36 operations. Because of his history, it was strongly suggested that he should start his rehab in a pool.

What were his goals?

• Learning to walk in a straight line
• Learning to get muscle memory back
• Strengthen all muscles in the correct manner

“When I first started using the floating dumbbells in the pool, I thought it was a joke. “How on earth is this going to help me?” I asked myself. I am happy to admit just how wrong I was about my rehabilitation. After just three sessions, I knew I wanted to join Innovative so that I could work longer and harder. One day while I was walking on the treadmill, I was looking down at my feet to make sure that they were pointed straight. All of a sudden, I blurted out, “you SOB, you did it,” knowing that I was overcoming my hardships. Just one year ago, the therapists at the hospital were teaching me how to walk and teach me who my wife and kids were. I am so happy to be alive and continue to be getting better everyday.”
